HAS LONGEVITY BECOME THE NEW LUXURY HANDBAG?
There was a time when status symbols were easy to spot.
A designer handbag.
A luxury car.
A watch.
Today, they look different.
A full-body MRI.
A $3,000 blood panel.
A continuous glucose monitor.
A supplement cabinet that rivals a pharmacy.
The longevity industry is booming, and with it comes an important question:
Are we optimizing health or performing health?
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a believer in prevention.
I’ve invested in cardiac screening, comprehensive lab testing, and understanding my health before problems appear.
But I’ve also noticed something interesting.
Many of the habits most strongly associated with longevity are remarkably unglamorous:
✓ Strength training
✓ Quality sleep
✓ Walking
✓ Managing stress
✓ Maintaining muscle
✓ Staying connected to other people
None of them make for a particularly impressive Instagram post.
The wellness industry will continue to offer new technologies, tests, and tools.
Some may be worthwhile.
Some may not.
But before spending thousands chasing the next breakthrough, it may be worth asking:
Am I overlooking the fundamentals?
Health should be a practice.
Not a performance.
What do you think? Has longevity become the new status symbol?
Till next week…
xx
